From Summer to Fall: Marco Pelusi's Top 5 Hair Care Tips

By Alina Fridman

As the weather cools and the days grow shorter, it’s time to start thinking about changing your haircare regimen. This doesn’t mean you have to say goodbye to your sun-kissed highlights or beachy waves. But it does mean you need to take a few extra steps to protect your hair from the damage caused by the elements.

To find out how to care for your fall hair, we turned to an expert and asked Marco Pelusi, Celebrity Hairstylist and Salon Owner of Marco Pelusi Hair Studio, Inc.

Pelusi shared his top five tips for transitioning your hair from summer to fall:

Switch Up the Season With a New Shampoo

The hair can start to dry out a bit. Temporarily switch to a moisturizing shampoo to compensate for the change in season. Generally, it’s a good idea to alter shampooing products periodically. If you consider that using the same shampoo will always cleanse the same things from your hair, it makes sense to switch it up, from time to time. It’s nice to get a slightly different cleansing agent on your hair. It’s possible your hair may dry out with the seasonal change, so go ahead and change your fall shampoo. Try marco® color health shampoo with collagen color guard®

Condition Your Hair

Use conditioner after every shampoo in the fall – and leave the conditioner on your hair just a little bit longer in the shower, especially if it feels dry. Even just a few extra minutes can make a difference. Learn to do this for just a little longer, and your hair may gradually feel softer and more manageable. Try marco® color hydrate conditioner with collagen color guard®

Try a New Hair Color

Consider a slight change in your hair color for fall! You might consider going just a tad deeper and richer with the color. For blondes, it means some lowlights. For brunettes, go a level darker, gradually over the fall months. Speak candidly with your hairdresser about this, it’s their job to know how to provide these changes for you, and a changing season is the absolute perfect time for a change!

Tame Frizz with Leave-In Conditioner

Specifically for anyone with color, chemically-treated hair, and especially for anyone with frizzy or dry hair, use a daily leave-in conditioner. Your hair may require extra moisture right now, so add some leave-in, when you get out of the shower, before styling. It will protect your hair from the heat, too. marco® anti frizz leave-in conditioner with collagen color guard™ is a groundbreaking, anti-frizz formula that repairs, restores, and rebuilds, leaving the hair and scalp comforted and protected.

Use Deep Conditioner for Soft Fall Hair

Add deep conditioning treatments into your fall regimen, either at a salon or at home, once a week. At home, apply your conditioner to the hair, then, apply a plastic cap to seal in the moisture, leave it on for at least 30 minutes, and then rinse. This practice will aid in getting your hair softer for fall!

Don’t let the change in season stress you out – follow these simple tips from Marco Pelusi, and you’ll have healthy, happy hair all autumn long. And if you're in the LA area, book a hair appointment with Marco. He's fabulous!
